1954 Cadillac series 62 convertible.

I used to see this car parked in the side yard of a house located about 5 miles from my house.  Actually, I saw it for years, covered by a cheap piece of plastic and sitting on the lawn.  One day I stopped and knocked on the door.  I remember the owner’s name was Fritz.  He was a retired engineer.  I had shoulder length hair and I’m sure appeared a little scruffy.  I told the guy I was interested in the car, and he kind of sloughed me away.  I left my number and he said he would call me if he ever wanted to sell it.

A couple years later I was driving by and saw it in front of his house, out on the street and just washed.  I stopped, “hey Fritz, remember me? What are you doing with the car?”  “I’m selling it tonight” he answered.   “I thought you were going to call me when you were ready to sell it. I want to buy it”I said.   Nice guy, huh?

Kind of pissy, I left.  Well, the next day he called because  his buyer didn’t show up.  “You want to buy it?”   IT KILLED ME TO GO BACK AND DO THE DEAL!

Over the years I repainted it the original color, (which it was already).  The engine was a little tired so we pulled it and had it rebuilt.  The canvas top started to tear so there went more $$$.   Finally, the original interior started to wear so I had it completely redone in the original red vinyl.

Now, 26 years and a ton of enjoyment later, it’s still in my collection.  Both Jenay and I treasure it as our favorite car--ever.
